New Delhi: Cabinet approves 5G spectrum auction. The Indian Government has approved the auction of the 5G spectrum. Over 72 GHz of the spectrum with a validity period of 20 years is up for sale. The auction is likely to be held by the end of July 2022.
The Government has announced that there will be no requirement for successful bidders to make an upfront payment and telecom operators can pay spectrum dues in 20 equal installments.
Telecom companies will also be given an option to surrender the spectrum after 10 years with no future liabilities with respect to balance installments.
The auction is an indicator that 5G, which is about 10 times faster than 4G, may soon be available for mobile users across the country.
