An Army soldier was killed and four terrorists were shot dead in an encounter that broke out between militants and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district on Tuesday morning.
Based on specific information about the presence of militants in Nadigam area of Shopian, security forces launched a cordon and search operation. The search operation turned into an encounter after the militants fired on the forces.
"Four terrorists have been killed and operation is still underway," said Colonel Rajesh Kalia, Defence spokesman, Srinagar.
The operation comes days after militants abducted and mercilessly killed two teenagers on suspicion of being informers. The execution was filmed and later released on social media.
Meanwhile, in yet another ceasefire violation, Pakistani troops targeted forward posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. Three shells were landed near Poonch brigade headquarters.
