Rajasthan: BJP expels 11 rebel leaders, including four ministers

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday expelled 11 rebel leaders including four ministers in Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje's cabinet, from the primary membership of the party for six years.

The action has been taken against these leaders for contesting against the official party candidates in the upcoming Rajasthan assembly elections.

Two leaders each have been expelled from Churu, Jaipur and Pali districts of the state. Whereas one leader each from Sri Ganganagar, Alwar, Bikaner, Banswara, and Dungarpur has been expelled for fighting against party's official candidate.

Among those who have been expelled include ministers S Goyal, R Rinwa, H Bhadana, D Ravat, former minister LN Dave, former MA R Ganganagar, ex- General Secretary K Dhankad and District President DD Kumawat.

On November 18, Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) sitting MLA from Ramgarh constituency Gyandev Ahuja had resigned from the party and later announced to contest as an independent candidate after the party declined to give him the ticket.

However, Ahuja took back his nomination and returned to the party. He has appointed BJP’s state vice-president.

Since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its first list of candidates, several party MLAs, including a state minister, have resigned.

Last Wednesday, former BJP legislator Habibur Rahaman Ashrafi Lamba joined the Congress party. Rahman had tendered his resignation on November 12 to state BJP chief Madan Lal Saini after he found his name was missing from the party's first list.

At least 579 candidates withdrew their nominations for the upcoming Rajasthan Assembly polls on Thursday. Among the prominent leaders who withdrew their nominations include Bhawani Singh Rajawat whereas in the Congress, Ramchandra Sardana also decided not to contest the polls following talks with senior party leaders.

Till November 19, 3,293 candidates had filed 4,285 nominations, of which 612 nominations were rejected, he said.

Over 2,000 candidates are in the race for elections scheduled on December 7
