Islamic State terror module busted in Srinagar, three arrested

Jammu and Kashmir police in a joint operation with its Delhi counterpart blew the lid off a major Islamic State (IS) terror module when they arrested three terrorists from Srinagar.

Police said on specific inputs, Srinagar police, with the assistance of Delhi police, busted the IS inspired module and arrested three terrorists from the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.

"At a Naka checkpoint, a party of Srinagar Police intercepted motorcycle-borne terrorists, who were moving through the Kothi Bagh area. Acting swiftly, police apprehended the motorcyclist and other two associates," a police spokesperson said.

Police have identified the terrorists as Tahir Ahmad Khan resident of Chandrigam, Tral; Haris Mushtaq Khan of Wathoora, Budgam; and Asif Suhail Nadaf resident of Rainawari, Srinagar.

"Arms and ammunition were recovered from the possession of the trio. Police have registered a case under section 307 RPC, 16,18 ULA (P) Act read with 7/25 I.A.Act in this regard. Further investigation in the matter is in progress," he said.

In the national capital, a top cop said that Delhi Police's special cell was working on J&K terror module and nabbed three suspects with the help of Srinagar police.

"Delhi Police Special Cell was working on J&K terror module. It conducted a joint op with Srinagar SOG yesterday. Three terrorists nabbed, three grenades and two loaded pistols seized. Terrorists tried to lob grenade at police party in Kothi Bagh’s Tourism Reception Center," Pramod Kushwaha, DCP (special cell), was quoted as saying by ANI.

Kushwaha said the arrested terrorists were not "exactly planning an attack in Delhi but some kind of activity."

"One hideout of this module was also busted at Awantipora's Apple orchard. Jammu and Kashmir police have registered a case," he said.
