Vijay Deverakonda's supernatural comedy Taxiwaala has become yet another biggest profit earner in Tollywood this year with a nine-day total of Rs 36 Cr against a distributor share of Rs 19 Cr. The film, which hit screens on 17 November, was plagued by the online leak on piracy sites even before the release. Despite the rampant piracy, the Rahul Sankriyan-directed thriller attracted audiences to theaters in droves, thanks to unanimously positive reviews from critics and good word-of-mouth from viewers.
The film, whose worldwide theatrical rights were valued at Rs 7 Cr, entered the profit zone on day two itself and has again substantiated the box-office rise of Deverakonda among Telugu audiences. Produced by SKN, and presented jointly by Geetha Arts and GA2 Pictures, Taxiwaala has raked in $740K in the US, but it is unlikely to hit the one million mark stateside with 2.0 set to dominate North America from 29 November.
