BJP eyes ‘winnable’ independent, third front candidates to form govt in Rajasthan

BJP eyes ‘winnable’ independent, third front candidates to form govt in Rajasthan

Not deterred by exit polls, the BJP is confident of forming a government again and has started contacting the ‘winnable’ independent and third front candidates as an alternative to reach the majority figure. Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Saturday presided over a meeting of senior leaders and took the feedback of each assembly constituency. Today (Sunday) the meeting of the State Core Committee will be held in which a review of 199 seats will be done and  party’s strategy will be decided accordingly.

The meeting was attended by State Election Management Committee convener and Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, State Organisation General Secretary Chandrashekhar, State President Madan Lal Saini and former state president Ashok Parnami. According to sources, it was decided in the meeting that the BJP should zero in on those independents who have won the election.

Senior BJP leaders are already in touch with some independent candidates. “We are in touch with other parties and independents. We will bring them together,” said a senior BJP leader in an informal conversation on Saturday.

After the meeting, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that the BJP would once again form the government with absolute majority. “Our realistic goal is the government. We will 100 per cent form the government,” said Shekhawat.

Responding on the question relating to results of the exit polls, Shekhawat said, “The results of the exit polls are confusing and not clear. For example, one exit poll, says we are winning in Madhya Pradesh but losing in Chhattisgarh while the other says we are forming government in Chhattisgarh but being voted out in MP. In Rajasthan, one exit poll is giving us 103 seats while the other says we will not win more than 50 seats.

“I think these exit polls  were done on a very small sample size. Reality cannot be estimated on the basis of their forecast. However, on the basis of feedback from our party workers, I can say with confidence that we will definitely form the government,” said the minister.
CORE COMMITTEE MEET TODAY

CM Vasundhara Raje met BJP workers in Jhalawar on Saturday and thanked all party workers and leaders for their support. After reaching Jaipur in afternoon, she held a meeting with senior party leaders that lasted for around 2 hours. Raje will be attending BJP state core committee meeting on Sunday.
