Jammu and Kashmir cops kill over 250 terrorists after 8 years

For the first time in eight years, security forces have killed over 250 terrorists including highly educated commanders in the Jammu and Kashmir.

“Not only have 250 terrorists been killed but their support structure has also been disturbed to a large extent this year,” said Jammu and Kashmir DGP Dilbag Singh.

Figures compiled by different security agencies reveal that nearly 48 terrorists were killed on the borders and rest in the hinterland. Around 160 terrorists were killed in the restive south Kashmir region while rest were in north and central Kashmir.

Last time when terror fatalities had crossed 250 was in 2010. Around 270 terrorists were neutralised by security forces in 2010. The figure came down to 119 in 2011. Around 84 terrorists were killed in 2012 followed by 100 in 2013, 110 in 2014 and 113 in 2015. Despite unrest, security forces killed 165 ultras in 2016.  Last year 209 terrorists were killed by the security forces in Operation All Out.

2019 was also bloodiest year for the security forces who lost 89 of their men, which is the highest in the last 10 years in Jammu and Kashmir. Of the 89 security force men killed, 44 were policemen. The fatalities of the security forces in 2018 are the highest since 2007 when 182 security personnel lost their lives.

“Situation has improved. We have got major successes this year. There is a coordination and synergy among all the forces and agencies. Stringent action has been taken against the militants’ supporters and promoters”, said Singh.
