Virat Kohli is now India's joint-most successful captain outside home. The current Indian skipper equalled Sourav Ganguly’s record for most overseas Test wins on Sunday.
India captured Australia's last two wickets after a rain-delayed start to day five of the third test on Sunday to complete an emphatic 137-run win.
They also retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with this win taking a 2-1 leading in the series. India will retain the coveted trophy even if the series is drawn level at Sydney as they have won the previous series at home in 2017. India are now just one win or draw away from winning their first ever series on Australian soil in seven decades.
With the victory, Kohli now has captained India to 11 Test match victories in 24 Tests away from home. Ganguly had won 11 Test matches as captain in 28 Tests overseas. MS Dhoni had won 6 games in 30 overseas Tests, while Rahul Dravid had won 5 games in 17 Tests.
This was also India’s 150th win in Test cricket and they became only the fifth country behind Australia, England, West Indies and South Africa to attain so.
