Tanushree Dutta refuses to take credit for #MeToo in India

Tanushree Dutta refuses to take credit for #MeToo in India

Former actress and model Tanushree Dutta is said to have propelled the #MeToo wave in India. Since then, a slew of popular Bollywood figures have been accused of sexual misconduct. However, she refuses to take credit for it and is returning to the US.

In an interview to IANS, she said, "The media is just making a heroine out of an ordinary person's organic journey. I was not the doer but just a conduit and a vessel through which some change or awareness had to come about in society."

Despite making the decision to move back, Tanushree is not distancing herself from the movement. She said that she needed retribution from the incident that served as a setback in her professional life.

She said that she is sure the #MeToo movement will go on in the country regardless of her presence.

Tanushree had accused Nana Patekar of inappropriate behaviour on the film set of the romantic comedy Horn Ok Pleassss 10 years ago, which he had categorically denied. She spoke out at the time, to no avail. But the global #MeToo phenomenon encouraged her to go public again and she eventually filed a police complaint against Patekar.
