Bihar Court Orders FIR Against Anupam Kher and 13 Others For The Accidental Prime Minister

Legal trouble doesn't seem to stop for Anupam Kher's upcoming film The Accidental Prime Minister. Ever since the trailer of the film was released, it has been embroiled in a number of controversies. On Tuesday, a local court of Bihar ordered to register an FIR against Anupam Kher & 13 others in connection with the petition filed by Advocate Sudhir Ojha against the film, reports ANI.

In his complaint, Ojha had alleged that he felt "hurt" upon viewing the promos of the movie, set for release on January 11, on TV channels and YouTube. Besides Kher, who plays the role of former prime minister Manmohan Singh in the movie, others named in the complaint include actor Akshaye Khanna who appears in the role of noted journalist Sanjaya Baru.

Actors and actresses who have played the roles of UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress president Rahul Gandhi - then a national general secretary - and Priyanka Vadra have also been named in the petition alongside the movie's producer and director.

He also claimed that the film projects the country and a host of its political leaders in a very poor light.

The petition was filed under IPC sections 295, 153, 153A , 293, 504 and 120B relating to promoting enmity between different groups, sale of obscene objects, insult with intent to provoke breach of peace and criminal conspiracy.

A day before on Monday, the Delhi High Court had disposed off a plea seeking a ban on the trailer of the film.

Justice Vibhu Bakhru observed that the petitioner, Pooja Mahajan, a Delhi-based fashion designer, has no personal interest in the matter. The plea, filed by Mahajan through her counsel Arun Maitri, said the trailer violated Section 416 of the Indian Penal Code as impersonation of a living character or living persons is not permissible in law.

The Accidental Prime Minister is based on Sanjaya Baru's book of the same name. Baru was the former media advisor of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
