Kozhikode: Renowned Malayalam writer Dr. Punathil Kunjabdulla passed away at a private hospital here on Friday. He was 75.
The writer had been undergoing treatment for age-related illnesses and breathed his last around 7.45 am.
He was born in 1940 at Vatakara in Kozhikode. He had completed his education from Brennen College, Thalassery and Aligarh Muslim university. A doctor by profession, he had written seven novellets and several short stories. He had won the Kendra Sahitya Akademi award for his novel ‘Smarakasilakal’ in 1980. He won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi award twice in 1978 for Samarakasilakal and 1980 for Malamukalile Abdulla.
Navagrahangalude Thadavara, Kunjabdullayude Kroora krithyangal, Kamapookkal, Papiyude Kashayam, Doctor Akathund, Nadapathakal, Kupayamillatha Kadhapathrangal are among his major works.
His body will be kept at Kozhikode town hall from 2 pm today for the public to pay homage. The funeral will take place in the evening.
